A lively plant, easy to grow. It doesn't tolerate heat very well and will produce flowers and seeds (coriander) for the next generation of growth. If planted in shade, the growing and harvesting season can be prolonged. It often self-seeds, and can often be grown as a Fall herb. Cilantro is a great plant to grow while waiting for bigger plants to grow. Interplanting around tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant makes good use of the space. When harvesting, cut the plant off 10cm from the soil, to not disturb the root systems growing around it.
A classic flower, very low care required. Heat and drought tolerant. Toss the seeds onto the warming soil and press them in. A nice cut flower, pollinators love them, and make an easy flower to interplant. They flower for the entire growing season, and make a nice cut flower to bring inside in a bouquet.
A gorgeous, magical flower. A favourite with the pollinators, and for making salves, tinctures, creams, and tea. Very easy to grow. If waning flowers heads are removed, new blooms emerge until frost. This variety has enjoyed being a transplant everywhere. Under the tomatoes, tucked into the herb spiral garden, and in containers. Stunning for photographers!
A vibrant mix of Ragged Jack, Siberian, and White Kale. These plants are hardy, easy to grow, and delicious to eat. Four plants can be transplanted in a square foot area, and picked regularly. They can handle full sunshine, to part shade. A nice plant to create a stunning edible garden in public view.
A delicious mix of leaf lettuces. Easy to grow, slow to bolt. Can be continuously harvested, cleared and new seedlings transplanted under a shade cover through the heat of the summer. Will self-sow if allowed to flower. I great plant to grow in a raised bed away from bunnies and slugs.
A prolific, indeterminate cherry tomato. Low acid, sweet, and needs lots of support in the garden when it gets large and heavy. A delicious fruit in salads, dried, or for breakfast in the garden.
These seeds come from Urban Harvest Seeds of Toronto. They are considered a rare, and endangered variety. So, I have grown them out successfully and saved plenty of them.
They are a delicious green bean when picked young, before the beans have developed. Or wait, and harvest for a delicious, plump and meaty soup bean. Vines reach over 10' high with strong supports.
In an urban garden, pole beans are wonderful when interplanted with cucumbers and climbing flowers.
An intense, flavourful fruit that is very unique. It was a desirable variety a few years ago, but I haven't stopped growing it. It's amazing roasted, dried, sliced in a salad or juiced. Very strong, indeterminate plants, needs supports to hold the heavy fruit. While considered a cherry tomato, the larger ones can be heavier that a golf ball.
This variety of parsley is one of the most vigorous varieties I've ever grown. Heat and drought tolerant with part shade. Carefully harvested, it can provide nutritious greens all season long. I use parsley in everything, and I dry a few large bunches in the fall to continue to enjoy the taste of summer as long as possible.
A heavy bearing, indeterminate marbled cherry tomato. The skins of the sweet fruit start ripening as light yellow, moving to a dark marbled orange. Very juicy, low acid fruit. One plant can take up a 4'x4' space. Need staking and pruning to keep this large plant where you want it to grow. I grow this variety every year. Wonderful in salads, and sun-dried.
